A Chinese Moment

A lot of my friends have had Chinese Moments and today was ours.

Cameron got up at 5:40 but said he was awake since 5. 10 hours of sleep is obviously what he needed. I woke up and the day went down hill. Our laundry room porch flooded. The pipes were frozen and when we got them unfrozen the drain was frozen so it backed up. Todd vacuumed that all up. I got a message from Ileana that said she got a message from our relocation lady saying she had a leak in her porch. Todd went down to see what that was about. They had no power, fish were all dead, thought food in freezer was lost, and found a ton of water in their laundry room. A spicket was leaking water. He shut that off. The power cord in the water flipped the breakers and shut the electricity off.  Later we found out the hose busted off from the washer.  That is why the spicket was on.  Still doesn't explain water running if Management shut it off.  Another worker told us it wasn't shut off all the way.  Imagine that.

Short story...we went down and cleaned it up, only a few things had to be thrown out, and we turned all the heat and ran hot water. It backed up in the bathroom because their drains were also frozen. Cleaned that up. I let Serena, a plumber, and another into their apartment. Plumber confirmed drains were frozen. Thanks.  Looked outside and they had a pool in one enclosed porch. Water gushing from upstairs...our place. All the water from doing laundry pouring over the side because our drain is frozen outside. That water leaked inside Carrasco's laundry room again. HUGE disaster. 3 hours later I was back in my own apartment. What a day. I guess it is a good thing Todd went down there to check on things. The funny part is the leak they have in their porch is underground on their big porch not anywhere near the laundry room.

Holy cow...clean out the vacuum once in awhile.

The water seemed never ending.

Luckily the saga continued all day. I got a call from Serena saying a worker was going to Ileana's and I needed to let him in. As I was doing this I saw Jahmy and Carrie. Told them the drama. Jahmy needed to see it for himself. We all went to check it out. Jahmy said they just needed shovels to break the ice and throw it over the side. Problem...where do they have shovels or spades? Jahmy couldn't help himself. He got his hammer and went out there and busted it all up. Then 7 ayi's appeared with a huge shop vac. Jahmy told them they needed to go out and get that area cleaned up. They did great. Ileana's real ayi showed up and she was suppose to have it all cleaned before Fredy got home. As we were standing in their apartment Carrie cleaned all the dead fish out of the tank. She put them in a garbage bag. Todd thought we should save them so Fredy knew what he had so they can be replaced. What a nightmare.

Jahmy had to get the ice.

All the ayi's ready to clean.

Carrie won't like this but it had to be documented.
Getting all the fish.  I just couldn't do that.

At 7:00 Cameron and I ran back down to Carrasco's just to make sure everything was ok. As soon as we opened the door we knew something wasn't right. Their ayi turned off all the heat again. Thank goodness we went back down. I'm not sure where the brains are for a lot of people in China. Scary.
