Back in Beijing Then TEDA

We landed at 6:15 and were in the van by 6:50. We went into Beijing to Peter's Tex Mex for breakfast. We arrived there at 7:20 and they opened at 7:30. We decided to wait because we didn't have very many options for breakfast. This was the first time we had ever eaten breakfast outside of a hotel in Beijing.

The view out the airplane window.
View from the car window.

A little UNO while in the car.

As we were waiting we heard a Chinese lady yell something as she swept something out the front door of the restaurant. Todd said "It's a mouse". The poor little thing obviously took a beating with her broom and we think she must have been telling it not to come back. The mouse laid stunned for a minute. It then did a couple of rolls but it couldn't get up. Next thing a bird landed close to it. I said "Oh no. That bird is probably going to eat it". Just as I said that the bird took a peck and then another and flew off with his breakfast. My dad said "We'll, that is a first". What are the chances of seeing all that happen? Cameron of course thought it was cool. We were all a little weirded out about eating there but we did.

Poor mouse.

Sniff, peck, eat.

7:30 we went inside. Sat down, ordered, and a little I Spy was played. Our food came and everyone dove in. Well, except for Mom. She didn't order anything but she had a couple Oreos while we ate.

Before we left we all hit the bathroom. Dad asked where they were and she said upstairs. Dad took off. Shortly after, the rest of us went up and there was no one in the boys bathroom. A door was shut in one of the girls stalls. We all started laughing because we thought dad was in the girls bathroom. As we stood there making fun of my dad he came walking up the steps. We asked where he came from. He thought the girl said the bathroom was downstairs. As it turned out Dad was not in the girls bathroom. We still thought it was funny and continued to laugh.

Back in the van and back to the airport. Poor Todd had to fly to Harbin. We said our goodbyes to him and then made our way back to TEDA. Lots of sleeping in the van except for Cameron. Finally home at 11:00. Alfredo and Manuel instantly showed up at our door ready to play. They all went outside for awhile but returned to our place.

We walked in the apartment and dropped our luggage. I went in the laundry room and noticed the window was shut. We always have it open because of the dryer. It's not vented so it gets really hot. I looked again at the window and noticed the screen was ripped out at the bottom and along one side. I immediately contacted our relocation people to have it fixed. A Warner worker came over to look and immediately said "Meiyou" meaning 'no,' he couldn't fix it. Back on the phone. They needed to send someone else over either today or tomorrow. Great!

I told my dad someone probably got in but I was kind of kidding. Well, in the afternoon Ileana invited us down. They cooked shrimp and chicken. It was 4:45 and it was their lunch. Silly Mexicans. We watched them eat and chatted. I told her about my screen. She told us on Thursday she got home and went out to her laundry room (which is directly below mine). She said a window that they never open was open all the way. She is pretty sure someone was in her place but luckily for both of us we had the door into the apartment locked. So now I am pretty sure someone was in our place too. Only the laundry room though. Still freaky. Now I really need to step up making sure everything is locked all the time.

We were going to grill out but changed our minds. We ordered pizza from Jacky's instead. Cameron had chicken and pineapple. He said it was not near as good as what he had in Thailand but it would do.

We were all tired. Mom hit the shower and watched tv in bed at 7:15. Cameron went to bed at 8:30 and Dad and I followed. Vacation was hard work. Back to the real world tomorrow.
