Back To Oahu--Luau

Up at 4:15 a.m. again.  We headed for the airport at 5:00.   We were flying back to Oahu.  Boarded the plane and fell asleep.  Me and Cameron both did and neither of us woke up until we landed. Vacation is hard work.

Jumped in the car and stopped by Pearl Harbor to see if we could get tickets since it was only a little after 8.  Sold out already (The USS Arizona Memorial was).  We drove to the resort.  Arrived about 9.  Our room was empty but needed to be cleaned.  Cameron put his suit on and not the pool.  He also hit the beach.  The rest of us just watched him.
Loving the resort.
Ready to relax.

Loving the pools.

Made himself a life jacket.

Checking out the beach.

Lots of bridges and tunnels were built and destroyed
by water.
Waiting for the room.

The bar opened.

We loved Tom's Hawaiian shirt.

Smoothies for everyone.

Awesome resort with awesome family.

Up to the room to check it out.  Awesome.  We unpacked.  Todd and I went back down to the pool with Cameron for awhile.  Back up to the room to get ready.
View from the porch.

This was a really nice resort.

Grandpa took this picture from our porch.

Cameron took a rest while we got ready.

We went to take some pictures then jumped on the shuttle bus to Paradise Cove for a luau.  We went in and received shell leis.  For the next two hours there were activities to try.  First up was spear throwing.  The guy in front of us threw the spear and it bounced off the target and flew towards Tom and Judy.  It landed right by them.  The guy felt bad.  I was next. I threw it but did not stick it in the target.  Cameron was up next and didn't hit anything but air and ground.  Todd was last and it hit the target but didn't stick.

Tom and Judy's photo.

Cameron with Grandma and Grandpa Wallace.

The whole Wallace clan.

Cameron and I.
My family.

Our room on the 9th floor.

Tom and Judy waiting for the shuttle.

Cameron was searching for geckos.

Becoming one with his thoughts.
Our Mai Tai drinks when we got to the Luau.  Cheers.

Grandma returned the spear that almost hit them.

I had good form but the spear was too heavy.

Cameron's looked good but wasn't far enough.

Todd couldn't do it either.

We did stone bowling next.  Cameron rolled the stone between the two posts on the first try.  I never did it make it. Cameron held some birds next.  The guy in charge of the birds was a huge weirdo. When Cameron was done we had to look at the pictures they took.  $20 for 1 but she was going to give me all 5 of them for $35 because Cameron had such a nice smile.  She whispered this to me trying to make me think this was a special secret deal.  I'm pretty sure every kid there had a special smile according to the lady.

Waiting to hold the birds.

Two out of four he had on him.

Grandpa found some shade.

Next we learned how to tie sarongs for men and women.  We also learned how to do a Hawaiian dance.  After that we watched a guy climb a palm tree.  That was crazy and dangerous for the untrained.

Cameron followed the crowd to the next activity.

This was the girl teaching us about sarongs and dancing.

Cameron practicing his moves.

Cameron and I doing the hula.

This guy was crazy.

He threw flower petals out of his bag.

The last activity was fishing.  They showed how to throw the net and how to pull it in correctly. They had some audience members doing some dancing which was pretty funny.

Waiting to see what happens next.

Some of the entertainment.

Time to unearth the pig.  We all went to a small arena where everyone sat down.  After a few native dances two men took  the blankets and leaves off the pig.  They then pulled it out of the pit in the ground and placed it on a board.  They paraded it around.  Boy did it look and smell delicious.

A little traditional dancing.

Tom and Judy found a nice tree to hang out under.

Time to unearth the pig.

Yummy, Yummy, Yummy.

Dinner time.  It was a buffet.  We had fried chicken, fish, and pork.  There was also salads, rolls (which the bread was purple), fruits, and desserts.  It was good.  After dinner was the luau show. There was hula dancing and fire dancing.  It was good but we wished there was more of the fire part not hula part.

Waiting for our table to be called.

Love these boys.

Now you're talking...fire.

Oh yeah baby.

Cameron did go on stage for one song.  They asked for volunteers to dance a hula dance and Cameron said "oh what the heck."  He is definitely my kid when it comes to that kind of stuff.  Right in the front row with a big smile was my little hula dancer.  By far the cutest one on stage (I may be prejudice though).

The kids dancing.

Always a smile for the camera.

They ended the night with a wedding dance.  Married couples were invited to dance.  Of course Todd didn't dance but Cameron and I did.  He looked at me and said "Would you like to dance?"  How do I say no to that?  He's such a sweet kid.  After that we jumped on the shuttle back to the hotel.  Bed time.
