Hong Kong Bound

Happy Thanksgiving in China.

Up at 4:45, breakfast at 5:30, on shuttle bus at 5:45, and in the airport at 5:50. Got our tickets and got on the train to take us to the other terminal. When the train stopped and the doors opened a bunch of Chinese girls took off running. As they were going past Todd was looking at them and then he picked up his pace. Cameron was laughing and said "I have never seen so many girls running in high heels before". We turned a corner where passport control was and Todd realized all those girls were running to get to work. I think he felt better knowing they were not going to be in line in front of him. Through passport control and security. Found the AirChina lounge and settled in to wait for our flight. Cameron had some fruit and read his book.

Todd thought he should have a shirt made with this
saying on it.

Boarded the plane. Settled in our little seats. Knees hitting the seat in front of us. Thank goodness it wasn't a very long flight. Pretty uneventful trip. Landed and through passport control. As we were waiting in line two guys a little bit down from us got in a fight. Not sure what all happened but when we looked one was using an open hand and shoving the other guys face. There was some yelling and then the first guy just went on his way. Security came around but nothing happened.

We found our hotel driver, drove 30 minutes to the hotel, checked in, and up to our room. Top floor...41st floor, overlooking the bay. We had huge windows all along the wall. We were upgraded so we had a bedroom, living room, and a dining room type space with table and chairs. The room was big. Smelled a little musty but otherwise perfect. Todd said "I don't think we could have asked for a better room except maybe the room Lady Gaga stayed in at the Ritz". Our driver told us she was here last month and it caused a traffic jam.

strawberries.

We signed up for a tour for Friday. We wanted to do the helicopter tour to Macaw but it was $500 USD per person. We couldn't quite justify that. Next we walked to the ferry to go to Kowloon. On that island we walked to Nathan street. We were on a mission to find somewhere good to eat with Cantonese type food. Anthony Bourdaine was on Nathan street so we wanted to check it out too. We found Aberdeen Fishballs and Noodle Restaurant to eat at. I was nervous. I don't really enjoy trying new things but I did it. I ordered noodles with curry beef brisket. Todd and Cameron each got some kind of noodle soup. We also got some yummy green beans and pork cheek. It was all good. The only problem was trying to eat noodles with chop sticks. Todd said the only way is to slurp them like the Chinese do. We finally got the hang of it without feeling like we were slurping but the people sitting next to us were getting a huge kick out of watching us. They were pointing and laughing. But we think they were also impressed Cameron could use chop sticks.

Terrible picture but it is us on the ferry.

Hong Kong Island behind us.

At the restaurant.  They had the cutest little glasses.

I'm not sure about my food at this point.

Outside the restaurant.

As we were waiting for our food Cameron was checking out the map. He found 'Cameron Road' so of course we had to find it. He told us it was only a short distance away. He was right. It was the next street over. Of course we took a picture by the street sign. We continued to walked around until we headed back to the ferry and back to Hong Kong Island. We stopped by 7-11 to get drinks to take back to the room. There was a mini fridge but we are pretty sure everything in it we couldn't afford to pay for.

The sign says it all.

The streets of Hong Kong are neat.
In Kowloon going back to the ferry.

It was very hot and humid. Cameron decided to try out the swimming pool. Put on his suit and we went down to the 4th floor. The pool was on the roof on that part of the building. There were a few others there as well. I accidentally pushed Cameron in the water while he was feeling it to see if it was cold. It was a little cold he said when he came up. He didn't seem to mind because he stayed in for about 45 minutes. I was throwing a coin and he was finding it. Nice pool area.

Enjoying the pool.
Striking a pose.

Back to the room and he changed. At 5:30 we went to the lounge. We had some drinks and snacks. We had a tall table next to the windows so we could look out over the bay. We could see some of the lights on the buildings that were a Christmas theme. Very pretty.

Chips, Salsa, celery, M & M's, and Gummy Bears.

Some of the Christmas Lights.

Jumped in a cab for a 10 minute ride to Dave Ryan Restaurant. We walked in and they had no tables until 9:45. Obviously we didn't stay. We walked for 15 minutes to Outback Steakhouse. Cameron and Todd had steak and I had chicken. It was pretty good. We walked back to the hotel. Showered and off to bed.

A good dinner.

Walking home we saw this guy laying in the lobby of a hotel.
