Who knew Wii could be so intense. |
Loaded up the van with our luggage and cooler. Mr. Xue dropped us off at the station. This time the four of us knew what we were doing. A girl who spoke English asked me if I knew how to buy tickets. I looked to see if my driver was still in the parking lot but he wasn't. I told her I have my driver do it but if she has a translator on her phone that should work. She thanked us and we headed to security. Right through then waited to board. Lined up, put our ticket through the gate, grabbed free water, and found our seats. Cameron and I walked the whole train looking for a bar car that Sharla told us about. There isn't one. Sat down and enjoyed the 50 minute ride. We made a quick stop in Tianjin this time on the way to drop others off.
Stood in line to get a cab. Long line but moved fast. 10 minutes to wait. A gypsy cab tried to get us to ride with him. He told me 300 rmb (45 bucks) so I told him no. He went down to 200 but still a no. We arrived at the Hard Rock Cafe for lunch and it cost 45 rmb (less than 8 bucks). As we were driving our driver kept snorting. At a stop light he opened his door, snorted loudly then spit a huge hocker out the door. I thought Aunt Sharon was going to die. We all laughed.
At the Hard Rock we ordered and watched videos on tv. Thriller came on and Cameron just couldn't help himself from dancing. Our food came and it looked great. The ladies ordered chicken noodle soup. It came in the double handled cup like Aunt Sharon used for a coffee cup at the hotel. We laughed. As we were eating we had the strangest conversation. It all started when Cameron was asked about eating sheep penis. We had a lot of laughs. The looks Cameron was making were priceless. We had time to kill so we had another drink and chatted. Hard Rock Cafe was pretty expensive but it was nice to have a little touch of America. We went in the gift shop and bought a couple things.

Headed out to catch a cab to the Chaoyang Theater. It was raining a little bit. It wasn't very easy to get a cab. Finally got a guy to stop. I showed him where we wanted to go and he told me 50 rmb. Perfect. I flagged the others over. When he saw there was 4 of us he changed to 100 rmb. I didn't care what it was going to cost since no one else would stop for us. As we were driving the guy thought mom and Aunt Sharon were twins. He kept looking at Cameron and saying he was beautiful. He laughed at us a lot too. We think he was happy he picked us up. We brightened his gloomy day.
At the theater we found our ticket guy and got our tickets. Bought some snacks and headed to our seats. We were in the balcony. Our seats weren't the best. We were able to sit up on the back of them so we could see over the railing and people in front of us. There were a ton of tours and we are pretty sure it was old peoples night out. A lot of people talked through out the acrobat show. It was pretty annoying. The show was great though.

Walked out of the theater and there was a cab sitting there. I showed the guy where we wanted to go and he said in English "very far. 100.". No problem. We jumped in and headed out. I asked how long and he thought an hour. He immediately started talking and singing in English. He knew a lot of American songs. Anywhere from Christmas songs to patriotic songs to the soundtrack of the Sound of Music. We drove for about 10 minutes and then got into a huge traffic jam. No one was moving. People were out of their cars walking around. After 30 minutes or so traffic started to move. By this time we were sick of our cabbie singing and beating his knee to the beat on the door. Too bad we were in the car for another hour. It was raining in the windows that we had to have down a bit to try and keep the windows from fogging up. It didn't work. I was in the front and couldn't see anything. It was beginning to make me feel sick. By the time we got out of the cab we were all ready to punch something. Oh well, we made it at least.
Our crazy cabbie. |

A whole lot of red lights and no one moving. |

Neat building. |
We walked to Papa Johns and ordered pizza. It tasted pretty good. Went into the mall and walked around the grocery store to kill time waiting for Todd to get to the hotel with the luggage. He was coming in from Harbin. We all arrived back at the hotel about 10:00. It was time for bed.
So happy to be at Papa John's. |
They are completely in to eating their pizza. |
